Contrived Controversy Fomenting War

A contrived, fake controversy erupted last week when media war mongers attacked President Obama for not using the term “Islamic Extremism” when speaking about ISIS.  These words and the air time devoted to them cause lives.  President Obama held a forum on extremism last week and refused to label ISIS terrorists as “Islamic Extremists.”  For this he was vilified by Fox News.  The discussion also spilled over to the Fox Light Network CNN.

The President refuses to fall into the right wing media’s trap of making this war one of Christian versus Muslim.  Ever since President George W. Bush’s giant mistake of calling the Iraq War a crusade much of the world has taken that to mean that these have been religious wars.  There have been  countless religious wars over centuries and this should not be one of them.  This is a war against terrorists using ancient forms of torture and terror.  Let’s remember that their use of torture, however barbaric, is being justified by them because of our use of torture against Muslims.  We opened this can of worms.

ISIS is no more Islamic and representative of that faith than the Ku Klux Klan and the Westboro Baptist Church are of Christianity.  Nothing they stand or fight for is justified in the Quoran.  This is not the Muslim faith practiced and observed by a billion people across the globe.  Demonizing all Muslims for the actions of a few fundamentalist extremists is no different than if we condemned all Christians for the KKK.

Stereotyping people is evil and immoral.

Networks beaming footage of pundits calling for religious war is irresponsible war mongering.  People die from such actions.  The President is doing the responsible thing by recognizing ISIS as terrorists and not simply Muslims.  The term “Islamic Extremism” connotes that we, as a Christian nation (which we are not) are at war with Islam.

The result of such madness is that average Americans are targeted simply because of their faith.  Muslim Americans should not be afraid for their safety because reckless “journalists” choose to put them at at risk.  The fact a once respected network like CNN chose to jump on this topic last week on Carol Costello’s program was disheartening.  This is basic war mongering and an attempt to foment hatred not just at ISIS but towards all Muslims.

March 6, 2012

Former State Rep. Mike Veon, serving a 6 year prison sentence for corruption, was again convicted yesterday.  He formed a non-profit corporation and steered state grants to it to insure his seat remained secure.  State legislators must be barred by statute from any involvement in non-profit organizations following the abuses we’ve seen with Veon and Vince Fumo.

While there are arguments for supporting the President’s re-election there are equally strong reasons not to, among them war crimes.  Authorizing the assassination of American citizens with no arrest, no right to counsel, no trial and no appeals is an impeachable offense.  AG Holder is actually attempting to justify such unconstitutional actions by citing statutes which are subsidiary to the Bill of Rights.

Rush Limbaugh keeps losing sponsors as he rants on against women.  Today he went off on “overeducated white women.”  His remaining sponsors need to hear from you and contacting them via Twitter makes your outrage public and embarrassing for them.  The list is here.

In Laurens County, SC you cannot be a Republican if you ever had pre-marital sex or watch porn.  That first criteria guarantees a total purge of LGBT Party members.  Can the GOP get any further radical or go further over the cliff?  I keep thinking they can’t get crazier but then I see more evidence they have.

Karen Handel, the right wing zealot who masterminded the Komen catastrophe, is blaming Planned Parenthood for her failures.  Again, the concept of personal responsibility doesn’t apply to conservatives.

Today is Super Tuesday.  Romney is closing in on the nomination…

Rush Doubles Down

Rush Limbaugh went on the air this morning and apologized publicly to Sandra Fluke for calling her a “slut” and a “prostitute.”  He said he used two words badly and then went on to make himself the victim in the controversy.  He has now lost eight national sponsors.  It is believed he only apologized to stem the bleeding in his bank account.  So, if he did it to cave in to his sponsors who’s the real whore?

He didn’t apologize for claiming she has so much sex she can’t sit down, for saying men were lined up around the block to have sex with her, for saying she’s began buying condoms in sixth grade or for saying she should do sex videos and post them online.  Rush spent three days saying sexist, mysogynistic things about a private citizen then apologizes for two words.

He claimed that Bill Maher is as bad as he is except for one thing:  he isn’t.  What’s more Bill Maher is a comedian.  The “left” doesn’t engage in the politics of personal destruction Rush does as he claimed today.  He didn’t “lower himself to our standards” as he claimed doing in slandering Fluke.  No one on the Left sinks to Limbaugh’s level.  His “apology” is the equivalent of peeing on someone’s leg so they don’t smell the sh*t you smeared on them.

Rush to Judgment

This time Rush Limbaugh has gone too far and his future on the radio may be in jeopardy.  Why on earth are we even discussing contraception in the 21st century?  Rick Santorum is responsible for this resurgent American Taliban fringe politics polluting our national discourse.  The fact that Rush spent this past week trashing a Georgetown University student who testified in support of contraception is shocking in its content, extent and mysogyny.

Rush said she should be ashamed because she wants to have a sexual life.  He said any woman who takes contraception is either a slut or a whore.  He said he’d buy enough aspirin as necessary for all Georgetown women to “put between their knees” as necessary so they won’t need contraception.

He said Sandra Fluke, the young lady immersed in the controversy, should make a sex video and post it online.  He has said other equally monstrous things all week essentially slandering all women.  Let’s review reality:  women deserve to have healthy and happy sex lives just like men.  If all these straight men like Rush want to get laid they need to remember it takes two to tango and describing all such partners as sluts or whores isn’t going to be  a good method for getting any.  Since Rush has been married four times and has no children he’s either sterile, impotent or using birth control.

Fox News has been eerily silent on the matter while other news organizations are all over the story, especially MSNBC.  Facebook and Twitter are abuzz on it and several of his advertisers have canceled sponsorship.  Here’s a list of them:

Century 21

Lending Tree

Sleep Train

Sleep Number

Quicken Loans

Don’t do business with any of these companies until they cancel sponsorship of Rush’s radio show.  It appears the last three have done that along with eHarmony and Citrix.  Pressure has been building and without sponsorship Rush will be off the air.  It’s time this bully is taken down.  Mitt Romney didn’t even have the balls to stand up for women when asked yesterday and said only this:  “not the words I would have used.”  What words would he used to denigrate women?

The mysogynistic treatment of women during the GOP campaign this year is turning off millions of Americans and painting the Party as The American Taliban movement.  How can they argue for staying in Afghanistan when they’re trying to impose the same type of extreme, fundamentalist religious government here?  It isn’t Sharia law I fear but Biblical law.

From Mother Jones:

Fluke, who was prevented from testifying at Rep. Darrell Issa’s nearly all-male hearing on contraception, has been the target of barrage of sexist invective from Limbaugh over her view that Georgetown’s health plan should include birth control. Wednesday Limbaugh called Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute”, declared that “she’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception,” and asserted that covering contraception was tantamount to paying her for sex. On Thursday he blurted out: “If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I’ll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

George Carlin had these fringe lunatics pegged years ago: (NSFW)

Call your local radio stations carrying Rush and demand they cancel the show.  Also give them positive, progressive alternatives like The Rick Smith Show or Democratic Talk Radio (I’m a Co-Host there).  Then call Rush’s advertisers and tell them why you’ll no longer do business with them.  We’re getting ready to list a house with Century 21 and, believe me, when my sister hears about this she may well go elsewhere.  Money talks and these companies will react if they get enough complaints as we’ve seen a number of them do already this week.

Limbaugh issued this statement today:

For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week.  In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

Of course he wasn’t trying to be humorous, he was being insulting, demeaning, intimidating and cowardly.  Where is his personal accountability for calling women sluts and prostitutes?  The only absurdity is the hollowness of his “apology.”

News & Notes February 23, 2011

There’s things going on all around the world this week, lot’s of which to discuss.  Today President Obama announced his DOJ will no longer defend DOMA in court saying they believe the law is unconstitutional.  This is a major turnaround as the Justice Department had been positioning itself very badly on the law.

Gov. Scott Walker got pranked this morning when someone pretending to be David Koch called and spent twenty minutes on the phone with the Guv who is too busy to return phone calls from Democratic Senators blocking his union busting legislation.  The Koch brothers finance the Tea Party fringe groups along with major right wing think tanks.

Here’s some video from last week’s rally for women’s rights in Philadelphia:

Congressional Republicans are even trying to eliminate Obama’s teleprompter.  I haven’t seen any cuts to abstinence only or faith based initiative funding however.

Rush Limbaugh actually had the gall to call Michelle Obama fat.  He criticized her for eating ribs while she’s calling for children to eat better and avoid obesity.  Of course a balanced diet allows for eating ribs or other not as healthy foods sometimes.  Perhaps Rush should look in the mirror before he criticizes someone else’s eating habits.

Gov. Tom Corbett rescinded Rendell’s moratorium on gas drilling in state lands.  This means that private, for profit companies can cut down OUR trees, drill on OUR land and extract OUR resources without paying any taxes on the natural gas.

Speaking of extraction taxes GOP candidate Larry Medaglia Jr has signed a no tax pledge and is touting it in his campaign materials.  This means he would oppose an extraction tax.

Gov. Corbett killed a new prison in Fayette County but did agree to spend $42 million on a shipyard in Philadelphia which builds boats for which there are no buyers.  Smart?  The Commonwealth is building four new prisons at a time of severe budget cutbacks.  We spend $32,000/year for every inmate.  Isn’t it time we revisited mandatory sentencing guidelines for non violent offenders?

Sam Rohrer is the new head of Americans For Prosperity in Pennsylvania.  AFP is one of the Koch brothers primary front groups for funding and organizing the Tea baggers.  Rohrer is out of work since his failed campaign for Governor.

If you’re searching for a fun and entertaining Twitter account to follow I recommend FakeSantorum.

Clarence Thomas has now gone five years as Justice without asking a single query during oral arguments at the Supreme Court.  I suppose he lives by the maxim that one shouldn’t open their mouths and remove all doubt as to their intelligence.  This guy couldn’t even figure out how to disclose his wife’s $700,000 in income from the Heritage Foundation on his tax returns and financial disclosure forms.  Better to shut up then speak up and remove all doubt right?

AdultBasic ends on Monday for 43,000 Pennsylvanians.  Corbett is defending this indefensible action by blaming Ed Rendell.

Rahm Emmanuel won the Mayor’s race in Chicago yesterday.  The nation’s gain of losing him as Obama CoS is mitigated by Chicago’s loss getting him as Mayor.

Penn State students raised $9,563,016 for kids with cancer during last week’s dance marathon or THON.  The annual event supports the Four Diamonds Fund.  The next time you see young Nittany Lions collecting funds at an intersection be sure to drop a few bucks in their buckets.

Following successful attempts to shut down the internet during revolts in Africa Senators Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins have introduced legislation here authorizing the President to enact a “kill switch” here.  If you still had any doubts about our still having a democracy this is the proof we do not.

Protesters in Madison are running out of water.  There seems to be pizza aplenty thanks to contributions but go here to provide them with water.

Refudiate Sarah

Sarah Palin spent her day today scrubbing her websites of her violent rhetoric inciting people like Jared Loughner to violence.  Consciousness of guilt?  Unfortunately for Sarah her gun sights on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords remain, unscrubbed by all those who saved her graphics and statements.

As Keith Olbermann said tonight on a special comment it is time to repudiate, or, as Palin says, refudiate, all those who incite violence.  It isn’t only Palin, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly or others on radio and television we saw it here in Pennsylvania last year.  Remember the Tea Party extremists who openly carried weapons to Congressional and Senate events?  Remember the group in Lancaster which invited candidates to a shooting range to actually target President Obama and other liberals?

I have been railing about this since my own life was threatened by one of these unbalanced extremists on March 1st.  Ron Renninger, aka Ace of Sweeps” left a message on my voice mail saying he was going to “put a bullet in my head.”  Because I have a “Pennsylvania Progressive” bumper sticker on my car I’m routinely run off the road by other sick people, usually small businessmen in pick up trucks, given the finger and victimized by overly aggressive tactics.  Some in the media called for anyone with Obama bumper stickers to be “targeted.”

Today’s targeting of a Member of Congress, the killing of six people including federal Judge John C. Noll and a 9 year old child should shock America to its senses and have all of us vehemently reject such rhetoric.  Glenn Beck is the worst and Fox News should be taken off the air for supporting this man and his unhinged verbiage.   Should they not it is imperative on each of us as citizens to boycott any advertiser on that network, any entity which supports and funds such activity wherever it exists.

Killing your political enemies or intentionally inciting (and, yes, I believe it is intentional) others to do so has no place in a civilized society.  Perhaps we have ceased being one but it is imperative we take our country back from those who would take us to the depths of insanity.  The Sheriff clearly and openly blamed those on hate radio and television and said this:

“But again I’d just like to say that when you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain people’s mouths about tearing down the government, the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And, unfortunately, Arizona I believe has become sort of the capital. We have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry.”

Instead of retreating from their extreme views many on the right are claiming someone using numerous fringe right wing code phrases is actually a leftist and decrying Sheriff Dupnik for making the statement above.  Of course we know what motivated this young man.  The Congresswoman was his target, he walked up to her outside the Safeway and shot her in the head.  Before doing so he posted a message online saying “don’t hate me” and “I’m not a terrorist.”  Of course he is.  This is a clear cut case of American domestic terrorism just as it was when another deranged extremist flew his plane into an IRS building last year.

There are consequences for actions and words and it is time conservatives accepted personal responsibility for theirs.  Should they refuse then all of us should refudiate them and their networks.

Rush Doesn’t Know His Sasha From His Arse

We all know how stupid Rush is, he doesn’t know fact from fiction after all.  The man makes sh*t up as he pulls “stories” from the inner reaches of his colon.  When he does grab onto something he doesn’t do his basic homework.  Earlier this year we interviewed author Sasha Abramsky on Democratic Talk Radio with the publication of his book “Inside Obama’s Brain.”  He emailed me the other day about this affair with Rush which is hilarious because Limbaugh thinks Sasha is a woman.  He isn’t.  So much for research.

Here’s the scenario: on Sunday, ran a piece of mine on Obama’s penchant for the language of good, moderate goverance, and on the mistake he made in assuming his opponents were also interested in a high level, rational form of political discourse.

Sasha’s excellent article. (follow the link and read it) fully captures the failure of Barack Obama two years into his term.  Here’s an excerpt from Salon:

Implicit in that promise was the assumption that through rational, consensus-building rhetoric and pragmatic policy solutions to America’s serious, and growing, social and economic problems he could reforge broken bonds of trust between the citizenry and its governing institutions. When I set out to write my book, “Inside Obama’s Brain,” shortly after the last presidential election, the many interviews I conducted about how Obama thinks, how he approaches problems, how he views the political process, led me to conclude that this was the single most important part of Obama’s agenda and his credo.

Abramsky hits the nail on the head because Republicans, under orders from Rush, set out to sabotage every initiative the new President proposed for moving America forward and out of recession.  Whatever legislation they couldn’t block they watered down to a point where they could then attack them as being failures (even when they weren’t).  This effort was led on radio by Limbaugh and on TV by Glenn Beck.

Rush apparently didn’t like the Salon article and lashed back calling him a “stupid babe” and “some woman from Salon.”  A simple Google search to Sasha’s website would have revealed his gender.  Why wouldn’t a famous radio celebrity conduct what is very basic fact checking?  Because Rush has never been interested in facts, he makes up his own facts, his own reality where there is no need for fact checking.  Media Matters caught the broadcast.

I guess Rush doesn’t get out much except to get more Oxycontin (I doubt his maid is willing to be his dealer any longer).  It seems he didn’t watch “Borat” starring Sasha Baron Cohen.  Of course the name “Sasha” probably connotes foreigners to this bigot and he wouldn’t waste the time researching his subject with a Russian sounding moniker.  Why go on the air having prepared?  Before interviewing Sasha Abramsky I read his book and highlighted numerous passages to discuss on the show.  I visited his website and knew who he was and his biographical information.  This is why we’re off the air and Rush is making millions, Americans aren’t interested in facts just entertainment disguised as discourse.

Rush’s problem now is that he’s engaged someone much smarter than he, someone with great insight into politics and someone who is a very good writer.  Sasha may not have the platform of Rush’s radio empire but he made a mistake making him so well known.  Who knows, perhaps some of his listeners might actually Google Abramsky and learn something.

News & Notes November 9, 2010

State Representative Robert Donatucci of Philadelphia died suddenly this morning according to The Inquirer.  Our thoughts are with his loved ones.

Sam Katz won’t run for Mayor of Philadelphia next year as a Democrat.  He has run several times as a Republican.  Of course announcing he won’t run as a Dem doesn’t mean he won’t run.  Mayor Nutter was snake bitten by a collapsing economy as he took office three years ago.  A fine man, he faces a difficult re-election year.

Northampton County DA John Morganelli has announced he will run for re-election next year also.  No soon are the bodies from this election cooling than the next cycling is heating up.

Predatory payday lenders lost a key ruling and will be required to obey state banking rules and regulations.  This is a victory for Pennsylvanians, especially our poor population which is preyed upon by these unscrupulous leeches charging up to 1200% interest.

A disturbing result from last week’s election was the removal of three Supreme Court Judges in Iowa.  Voters tossed them for upholding the constitutional rights of LGBT persons to marry and have the same rights as straight citizens.  I suppose the constitutional principle of “equal justice under law” doesn’t appeal to Iowans.  This is a sound argument for the merit selection of judges rather than direct election and retention.  No ones rights should be put at the mercy of the voters.

68 Pennsylvania House members drove to Harrisburg and convened a mock session yesterday to protest the decision to adjourn for the remainder of this session.  No business could be done but they sent a message that important legislation remains on the table and abandoning their duty to the Commonwealth is shameful.

Fox News has its panties in an uproar over another manufactured scandal.  Their on air personalities raised a ruckus by claiming 34 Navy ships would be taking President Obama on his trip to India, that the trek would cost $200 million per day and other untrue, outrageous lies.  First of all the President travels on Air Force One, not Navy ships.  Ten percent of our Navy escorting him is, to any knowledgeable person, impossible while two wars are ongoing, and the supposed cost and number of hotel rooms are things people simply made up.  The culprits?  Rush and Beck again.  Fox reported this and put it out there then claimed it was true because “it’s on the internet.”  Yes, it was on the internet because they reported it.  This is the incestuous circle upon which the GOP propaganda channel depends.  Sheer nonsense except that millions of Americans will now suddenly assume it is all true when it was nothing but a complete fabrication.  I could say Rupert Murdoch is a serial killing, human cannibal alien from the planet Oosagia too but that doesn’t make it true.

I was driving home from a friend’s house and going through a very rural area (Lobachsville) and saw five doe crossing the road.  Three were taking their merry time and so I stopped to let them cross.  One stood just in front of my car while the third tried to decide whether or not to cross.  Finally I put the window down and asked her to just make up her mind.  It’s a woman thing right?

The trial for Elizabeth Smart’s kidnapper and rapist is underway in Utah.  She was the teen who was taken in Salt Lake City and kept tethered to a tree and raped daily by her tormentor.  Many Americans think she should have been forced to bear his baby and raise it had she been impregnated.  Imagine the horror she would have endured, especially if the child was the spitting image of his sire?  What’s even worse many Americans cling to the insane notion that words set down by Britain’s King James are the absolute word of god (or gods since christians worship three of them).  This would mean that Ms. Smart would have to be stoned to death for committing adultery.  Why are we allowing such insanity to rule us?  This is christian sharia law and they are the American Taliban.  There’s no difference folks.

Obnoxious Tea Bagger Blares Rush

I was volunteering outside the Muhlenberg Community Library this afternoon with two others, one a man working for Dan Onorato and another who identified himself as Vice Chairman of the Berks County “Patriots.”  Isn’t it interesting how these bastions of constitutionality have yet to hold a protest against Arizona’s new police state law?  I thought they were against big government and for supporting the constitution?  Are they hypocrites?

I was amused when he asked someone returning a book how one uses a library.  I suppose he should learn to read first.  Another person returned three books and he was amazed someone could read three books at a time.  Why am I not surprised?

He began blaring the Rush Limbaugh show and I asked him to turn it off.  First it was rude and secondly very improper at an election voting precinct during an election.  He refused and replied “I thought that would irritate you.”  I went to my car and got the camera and took video of this asshole:

If this is the sort of person working for Sam Rohrer it reflects very badly on “The Crazy Fundie.”

Racist Limbaugh Wants to Own Blacks

Rush Limbaugh, a racist scumbag who routinely pontificates on racial issues on the air wants to buy a football team.  NFL teams are comprised 70% of African Americans including one Donovan McNabb who Limburger once criticized for being Black.  Since the announcement many NFL players have said they wouldn’t play in St. Louis if Rush buys the Rams.  Good call.

Rush so wants to restore slavery he’s willing to buy a team so he can own African Americans.
