McCain Fans Are Fact Averse

by: John Morgan

Fri Oct 17, 2008 at 09:21:13 AM EDT

I had an interesting time interviewing John McCain supporters yesterday at their event in Downingtown.  It's incredible how fact averse they were.  They don't want any real facts they only want to believe what they want to believe.  When confronted with facts different from what they hear on Republican Propoaganda TV (Faux News) or radio (Rush Limberger) they turn away and refuse to talk.

Update:  I have now uploaded these to YouTube under my name PAprogressive.

I'll let the videos speak for themselves:

I'll credit the Young Republicans with saying Col. Moe's invoking the holocaust was extreme. I was about to ask them about the College Republican leader's racist rantings about Obama when the interview ended. Unlike the event in Lancaster this time I did see one minority face in attendance. One lonely Black male was in line yesterday. One. That's one more than in Lancaster. For those fact averse morons who are so gullible they believe everything on Faux News: Scrubbing mercury from coal, the possible relationship between mercury and autism, the real location of Obama's presidential campaign announcement, and the Annenberg Foundations's funding of the education Board on which both men served. I was fascinated by the vehemence with which these people invoked Bill Ayers (those who knew his correct name anyway). For people whose cars and Hummers were decked with decals from private religious schools (many of them in the parking lots) they don't act very christian. I thought christians believed in redemption? Why don't these hypocrites believe Bill Ayers could have redeemed himself and become a responsible, upstanding citizen? Very unchristian! Then again, these people are very fact averse.

forgiveness come with remorse john...
I thought christians believed in redemption? Why don't these hypocrites believe Bill Ayers could have redeemed himself and become a responsible, upstanding citizen?

but when he says he is "guilty as hell, free as a bird" and also says he didnt do enough of the bombing that got him in trouble in the first place....well, then John...your buddy who tried to kill cops just hasnt quite redeemed himself now, has he?

Unless of course, you are talking about redeeming himself to the hard core left...in which case the only thing he had to do for redemption was to wake up in the morning as you guys embraced him then and now.  What's the big deal, he tried to kill some pigs...right John?

forgiveness requires remorse...and Ayers has none.

and you know it. but you dont care as you support his causes.

have a great day :)

i would say have a great night too, but I am not sure how you sleep KNOWING FULL WELL that Ayers isnt sorry for trying to KILL PEOPLE and you embrace him. And you on the left wonder why your patriotism is called into question time and time again.  Duh.

yet more selective forgiveness eh?
Tyler - Liddy has no remorse for his actions, he's suggested how to kill law enforcement officials, he's a convicted felon, he's admitted to being prepared to kill any number of folks during and shortly after Watergate - yet John McCain is still friends with and proud of him. But you cling to citing Ayers, without considering McCain's dubious associations... too funny

please tell me...
the number of bombs planted and exploded by Liddy at New York City police stations.

And again, which is what makes this great, I am no fan of mccain  :)

so, again, please tell me the number of american flags that liddy has stood on during photo shoots? please tell me the number of bombs planted at the pentagon by liddy?

the left's attempts at moral equivaliency always makes me laugh.

so the radical muslims are hacking the heads off the infidels and murdering homosexuals in present day Iran?  yea, well, the christians had the inquistion back in the 1500's!  And christians vote against gay marriage!  They are ALL terrorists, right john?

Yup...completely similiar just like Ayers and Liddy.

Nice try. But not even close.  Sheesh at least make it challenging, Mr.Letterman...or is the Liddy thing a talking point from moveon.org?

have a great day :)

How about McCain's presence on a Board of a neo Nazi group in Arizona?
If you want to begin guilt by association so be it.

sigh...
they were just 'guys in his neighborhood' right?

and did mccain also kick off his campaign at their house?

your attempts again at moral equivalency are again laugable.

and did he say that he is still friendly with them?

i would say nice try....but it really isnt.

but i guess the left needs something.

have a great day :)

I sit on Boards too.
I don't do complete background checks on every other member of the Board.

This group was funded by the Annenberg Foundation and was called the Chicago Annenberg Project.  Yet these morons refuse to believe those salient facts.  Not only are they idiots they don't want to know the facts and that makes them idiots.

I've never embraced Ayers or the Weather Underground.
I lived through those times, I remember the violence of the 60's.  I even recall the reason they called themselves the Weather Underground.  It came from the Dylan lyrics "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing."

It reminds me of today when we don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing.  It's blowing for change.

Bill Ayers has made himself into a good, responsible citizen.  He has become a valuable member of his community.  Are you saying that isn't worthy of redemption?  No wonder christianity is so screwed up.

close...
As a fan of Dylan, the lyric is...you dont need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows...I have all his songs.  Great musician, but crappy historian as anyone who knows about boxing will attest to about the song Hurricane.

And again...redemption only comes from remorse.  If i robbed your house, and used that money to booze...then when asked I say that not only dont i regret it, but I should have stole your car as well...well, then, I am neither remorseful or redeemed nor am I a good citizen.

Avers doesnt regret trying to KILL PEOPLE. POLICE. CITIZENS WORKING AT THE PENTAGON. so if he doesnt regret it, then he is not a good citizen.

the fact that i have to explain this to you shows me two things
1) you have no idea what a good citizen is
2) you really will go to any lenghts to defend this guy who tried to KILL COPS.  Never, ever tell me again that the left is the party of supporting the police.  NEVER.

have a great weekend :)

Neither does McCain's buddy Gordon Liddy.
That's the problem with using guilt by association.  McCain's associations are as nefarious as Ayers.

McCain has plenty of bad associations ..
Henry Kissinger .. G. Gordon Liddy .. half the upper echelons of his campaign(which hasn''t gotten any mention) are bad people

[ Parent ]
again...
which one of mccains associates PLANTED FRIGGIN BOMBS?

One. Gimme one. Which one planted bombs and tried to kill police.  ONE.  ONE NAME. Name one that planted bombs at the pentagon.

anything less than one name is feeble attempts at moral equivalency.

have a great day :)

Maybe you need to read this:
http://crooksandliars.com/john...

Or there's this from Yahoo News if you don't trust Crooks & Liars.  We all remember the assassinations and death squads that killed many, many people, including clergy, in Central America.

This is the problem when you open the pandora's box of guilt by association.  Neo Nazi groups, Iran Contra, very bad, evil people.

Evidence linking autism to coal-plant mercury is not good
See the Science-Based Medicine blog for a (IMHO devastating) critique of the study you reference above.

A few points from the critique:

1) The study does not consider the effect of winds.  In fact, the current best-available data says that environmental mercury from human activity in Texas actually comes from Asia; Texan coal-plant mercury "is largely deposited hundreds to thousands of miles to the east."

2) The study makes no attempt to differentiate between mercury and other possible coal-plant pollutants.

3) The study does not adequately control for urbanicity, and does not attempt to control for population density at all.

Mercury and autism
are being linked in several forms including vaccinations.  There does seem to be a link between the two.   Coal can be scrubbed of mercury before it is burned but the industry refuses to spend the money.

As such, regardless of its effects on autism burning coal for fuel releases mercury, one of the most damaging pollutants possible.  That is undeniable.

The evidence linking vaccinations and autism is also not good
A lot of people claimed that mercury in vaccinations causes autism, but it's pretty clear that those were the "fact averse" people; the current scientific consensus is against the idea.  (The biggest evidence in favor was that autism diagnosis rose at approximately the same rate as the use of vaccines with trace amounts of mercury; the biggest evidence against is that the vaccine makers removed the mercury from their vaccines and autism diagnosis did not go down.)

I certainly agree that removing mercury from coal plants is a good thing.

[ Parent ]
That was the point of the Q&A
"I certainly agree that removing mercury from coal plants is a good thing."

That and the fact burning coal is destroying the planet.  Thus the term "clean coal" is an oxymoron.
