| A priest in South Jersey was defrocked for abusing a teenager. Isn't being defrocked redundant? I think getting defrocked is what got him into trouble to begin with.
Mayor Michael Nutter is proposing a soft drink tax in Philadelphia. Two cents per ounce for sweetened drinks would help solve the looming budget crisis and force residents into diet soda aisles. That comes to 40 cents for a typical bottle of soda (pop to all you readers in western Pennsylvania). This will be about as popular as the drink tax in Pittsburgh.
Have you ever seen so many potholes? The winter was brutal and the condition of our roads won't help local budgets at all. I was driving one stretch last week that was so bad I used a detour. I told friends there they'll soon have a community swimming pool. At this rate the holes are so deep that once they connect the entire neighborhood can go swimming in them come summer.
Trouble in paradise: Charlie Rangel stepped aside as Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee over a trip to the Caribbean. Considering how bad something has to be to get hit with an ethics charge in Washington this is bad. You nearly have to kill an intern to get even a slap on the wrist in DC.
If you think your airline seatmate was bad be thankful you weren't on this flight.
Sen. Daylin Leach is wondering why we have yet to hear from Pat Robertson on the Chile earthquake. I think that's because most Chileans aren't yet on his radar. He simply doesn't understand, as yet, if there are any gay or lesbians in the country so he's delaying his usual pronouncement that god forced this tragedy on them for tolerating evil. Why do we tolerate Robertson?
I was in Philadelphia last night for a State House candidate's kickoff and will be there tonight for Rep. Kenyatta Johnson and Saturday Rep. Tony Payton Jr. has an event. I'm going to feel like a commuter soon.
Congressional candidate Pat Meehan sent an email yesterday crowing about an article about him in the Moonie Times. Yes, that's sure something of which to be proud!
An anti-Onorato blog is up and going. I suspect they'll have some interesting material based on things I've heard about the candidate for Governor. I wish I could write about some of them but journalistic ethics prevent me. I wonder if whomever created this new blog will get some of the same stuff on the record. It'll be interesting to watch. By the way I have no connection whatsoever to this new blog, everything I write is under my name. I wish I knew who it was, figuring that out will be the new parlor game in PA. |
