Party Politics Be DAMNED!

It’s really not about voting Republican, Democrat, Independent, etc. – not any longer. It’s about right vs wrong; good vs evil. It’s now about saving the country and the people who inhabit it. It’s about the terrorists who have been seated in our Congress and are waging war on the rest of us. Make no mistake – they ARE terrorists and we’re being held hostage. Party politics be damned.

We don’t have time for the games those people play, because it is precisely those games that are the tools being used to distract us, divide us, and, ultimately, conquer us. You see, no one in Washington is speaking for or on behalf of “ordinary People.” Those of us who are struggling just to make ends meet, to stay in our homes, to pay the doctor bills, put food on the table and shoes on the kids – we’re the ones who Congress and the White House has left behind.

If you have been ravaged by the current economic meltdown, stood in the unemployment line, lost your home in foreclosure, taken a dead-end job to pay the bills, stood by and watched in desperation as your son or daughter or loved one was sent into a pointless and irrational war, seen your 401K bite the dust, wrung your hands as a neighbor was evicted, or simply wonder when it will hit you, you know what I am talking about.

We, the American People, have entered an era where corporations decide – not the People – who will represent us and what policies and laws will be enacted. They make these decisions based upon how much profit they can make, not on anything that even resembles concern for the People.

As the United States continues to be seen as a world leader and a beacon of hope to others around the world, on any given night, at least 672,000 people have nowhere to sleep. Nearly one in three working families live in poverty, and that translates to 22 million of our children who live below the poverty level. According to The Working Poor Families Project, “In just one year, from 2008 to 2009, the number of children in low-income

working families increased by more than 700,000.”

These numbers are nothing less than outrageous and unacceptable. As we watch corporate bail-outs and fat bonuses for the wealthy Wall Street fat cats, the People suffer…the People struggle…our children do without.

Party politics be damned! Feed the hungry. Clothe the poor. Take care of our children.

As America continues to bill itself as “The Land of Opportunity,” at least 15.1 million people are without work – no visible means of support. And guess what…there isn’t much hope on the horizon. The welfare rolls are growing as people hold their breath that the approximate 60% in unemployment benefits aren’t cut off by a corporate-run Congress who uses them as nothing more than mere pawns on a chess board.

The Land of Opportunity needs some landscapers. Party politics be damned! Create jobs, pay a fair wage, let our People feed their families, and stop playing Washington games with our lives.

As the United States continues to be at the forefront of industrialized nations, the World Health Organization continues to rank us at 37th in over-all health system performance. Over 50 million people are living daily without health-care insurance, and millions more who have been run into bankruptcy because of exorbitant medical expenses.

Yet, the corrupt and malfeasant corporate Congress provides no relief for the People. Instead they vote and maneuver and manipulate the People to provide for more pocket-lining treasure for the Health Care industry as they hold their hands out for a little of the green to add to their own coffers. Using a few scare tactics and a couple of well-placed buzz-words, they manage to convince the People that they are doing their bidding.

We, the People, deserve better. Party politics be damned! Take care of the People you were elected to represent – not the corporate interests that paid for your political ads. Insure the People and provide them with the best health care available – no exceptions.

As America continues to represent itself as the “Land of Plenty,” our infrastructure is in a state of decay. Yet, we spend 700 million dollars on war each day, not to mention the countless number of lives that have met with a tragic end. According to War is a

“The United States, the only superpower remaining on earth, currently spends more on military than the next 45 highest spending countries in the world combined. The U.S. accounts for 48% of the world’s total military spending. Where did the peace dividend from winning the Cold War go?

“The United States spends on its military 5.8 times more than China, 10.2 times more than Russia, and 98.6 times more than Iran.”

Yet, our roads and bridges, our cities and towns, are starting to resemble those war-torn areas that we so callously leave in our wake. For what? What better use could be made of our military? Wouldn’t we all rather see our young men and women working to rebuild this beautiful country than killing and dying and being maimed in an endless war whose only purpose is to further the wealth of the already well-heeled?

Party politics be damned! Bring our men and women home. Utilize our military to, once again, make this the greatest country on earth. We did not raise our children, love them, educate them and nurture them to be at the disposal of war-mongers and greedy politicians.

In the words of Dwight D. Eisenhower, over fifty years ago:

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hope of its children.”

We, the People, must no longer concern ourselves with party politics, because the parties are corrupt and the system is broken. It’s dead in the water. We no longer live in the Land of Milk and Honey. We live in a nation deep in the throes of the death rattle. The American Dream is rapidly becoming the American nightmare and the only way to stop a nightmare is to wake the hell up.

We’re done with Republicans and Democrats and Blue-dogs, and RINO’s. We get it. Their game is up! We’re not going to take our marbles and go home – we’re going to take our game straight to the arenas – the halls of government, the bellies of the beast – and we’re going to put up one helluva fight. Because, this is OUR country. They represent US – the People – and the People get it.

Go in Peace Frank Buckles

Frank who?

Frank Buckles was the last World War I U.S. veteran left alive.

He leaves only 2 known survivors of the Great War behind, Florence Green (110) in Britain and Claude Choules (109) in Australia. Choules turns 110 on 19 March.

It’s hard to believe that only 2 remain now.

I see Florence Green every year at the Armistice Day remembrance on Whitehall in London at the Cenotaph but now our last doughboy is gone.

Unfortunately soon there will be none left.

Frank Buckles, dead at 110. Our condolences to his family and friends.
