How Republican do you have to be to be a Republican in Florida?

If you’re Charlie Crist, the current Florida Governor, apparently a hell of a lot more Republican than he already is.

Poor Charlie is set to go Independent as he runs for the U.S. Senate.

The GOP appears to be embracing his GOP opponent Marco Rubio who is the new darling of the tea-bagger movement despite being caught up in a federal investigation into alleged credit-card abuses by top Florida Republicans (color me shocked)!!

It’s no surprise that the GOP keeps moving to the right. There seems to me less and less room for a “moderate” Republican in the Republican party.

I have wondered, for some time now, in, in a hundred years or so, we won’t have 2 Americas…a “Conservative” America and a “Liberal” America.

More fun in the south.

  1. This piece would likely make more sense (e.g. have more impact) if it was correctly punctuated and consisted of complete sentences.

  2. he will run as an independent for the Senate.  Marco Rubio is on the GOP fringe where a candidate obviously must be these days.  There is no room in the GOP for moderates.

  3. I saw this the other day in an email…not claiming it as my own…but i like the idea.

Let’s divorce and split America right down the middle at Mississippi River…we’ll even let you pick what side you guys want…we’ll take the other…here are the terms…and honestly, think about this…which side would you rather live on?  because you know as well as I do, in less than 5 years, your side would be an utter and complete shithole the way Detroit and DC turned out.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We’ll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, coal industry you guys are trying to destroy, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and rednecks. We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters who hurl feces, rocks and bottles at the police. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security.

We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values since you detest them so much.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We’ll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon and Prius you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We’ll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We’ll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute Imagine, I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We’ll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we’ll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Oh yea…our side gets a fence. I BIG fence.

    have a great day :)

  4. Yes, tylerderbun…I am in total agreement in terms of your position that the right and left can never come together in any joint effort to discover a common ground in the best interest of their country.

However, rather than see the Balkanization of this nation plunged into two warring camps as you propose, might it be possible for both you and your ideologues on the left, along with all of those supporters on each side, to simply take leave of the the majority of us Americans who represent what the eminent histrorian, Arthur M. Schlesinger, termed “The Vital Center.”

Your right and left whackos, along with their pathetic lemming like followers, remind one of the herbivorous apes depicted in that early scene in the great Stanley Kubrick film, “2001”:

The opposing tribes of these primates have no other thought than to mindlessly scream at each other…jumping up and down, (until one discovers that the bone of a large animal can be used to smash the scull of an opposing screamer).

Since your stressed out nihilists on the left and right insist on emulating Kubrick’s monkeys may I suggest that you all go to a remote island where you will be free to scream and smash each other’s sculls and leave the rest of us in peace.

    Matt Thomas

“…the centre cannot hold…anarchy is loosed upon the world,

the blood-dimmed tide is loosed and everywhere

the ceremony of innocence is drowned.

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

    Are full of passionate intensity…”
